Movie Summary: History comes alive in the unforgettable epic motion picture PEARL HARBOR, the spectacular blockbuster brought to the screen by Jerry Bruckheimer and Michael Bay. Astounding visual and audio effects put you at the center of the event that changed the world — that early Sunday morning in paradise when warplanes screamed across the peaceful skies of Pearl Harbor and jolted America into World War II. This real-life tale of catastrophic defeat, heroic victory, and personal courage focuses on the war’s devastating impact on two daring young pilots, Ben Affleck (ARMAGEDDON) and Josh Hartnett (THE VIRGIN SUICIDES), and a beautiful, dedicated nurse, Kate Beckinsale (SERENDIPITY). PEARL HARBOR is extraordinary moviemaking — a breathtaking reenactment of the “date which will live in infamy” and a heartfelt tribute to the men and women who lived it. – Amazon.com Product Description.
My two sons and I went to Hawaii 5 years ago, we visited the Pearl Harbor Museum and it was quite incredible. I felt so many spirits in US Arizona ship under the ocean were at peace, the view was so beautiful. Furthermore, the Pearl Harbor historic events in the museum were so important part of the largest US history. So many stories made me feeling heartbroken and sad, so many ships were destroyed, even though some hospitals fell down where Japanese pilots dropped the bombs down. So many people and children were terrified and they lost their loved ones, especially their family members. I could not imagine how I would react if I was there on December 7, 1941. Good thing was that my two sons learned a lot of things about Pearl Harbor, I was so happy that they understood what happened in the Pearl Harbor.
What I liked about this movie:
Since I first saw this movie in 2001, I was so curious to watch this whole movie. It was such a heartbreaking historic story in Pearl Harbor. It was so hard to describe the words because I felt that the people lost their lives in this place, some of them were lucky to survive but they never forgot the horrific event. In the movie, I really liked that Rafe and Eve first met in the medical examination. Both were very cute sweetheart, except I felt bad about Danny (Rafe’s best friend) and he did not have anyone in his life. Danny was characterized as very humble and respectful man whom his best friend Rafe really loved. Eve was characterized as a simple lovely woman loved two men in her life but she had hard time to choose one of men: Rafe and Danny. Rafe was characterized as brave, pride, and focused person who wanted to fight in the war and he loved flying. And I really like the way Rafe accepted what he dealt with Danny and Eve’s love affair as they both thought that Rafe was “killed”. The information about Rafe’s “death” was kind of misleading and confusing. Rafe understood why he left Eve for his battle in Europe, he knew that it was not Danny’s and Eve’s fault, he humbly respected Eve’s choice because she was pregnant with Danny’s baby.
What I disliked about this movie:
I disliked seeing when Rafe lied to Danny about volunteering to fight in the war from Europe. And I disliked that Rafe had to leave Eve for the battle in Europe, not the committed relationship. Poor Eve was very patient; she kept writing letters to Rafe almost every week as long as he wrote back. The long distance relationship was not so easy, it took a lot of patience and work.
